Medicare Broker vs. Agent

The terms Medicare broker and Medicare agent are often used interchangeably; both are licensed professionals who help you compare and enroll in Medicare plans. In general, a captive agent represents one insurance company, while an independent agent or broker can offer plans from several companies. Any single agent or broker may not offer every plan available in your area.

This is general education, not personalized advice, and plan details change every year. For all of your options, contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) at shiphelp.org.
