Turning 65: your Medicare enrollment checklist
Your Initial Enrollment Period generally runs for seven months: the three months before the month you turn 65, your birthday month, and the three months after.
Decide whether you want Original Medicare (possibly with a Supplement and a Part D plan) or a Medicare Advantage plan. Consider your doctors, prescriptions, budget, and how much you travel.
If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period without other qualifying coverage, you may face late-enrollment penalties. An agent can help you understand deadlines that apply to your situation.
